I started the design of Kolvik for my my blog. Eventually, I ported my blog and its design to WordPress and Kolvik is what I decided to name the theme. Kolvik is an area outside of Stockholm, Sweden. Literally translated, it means Coal Bay.
For the WordPress theme, I started from the WordPress Classic theme design.
The Kolvik theme is full of whitespace and light shades. WordPress Pages make the boxes at the top of the page. My two main design requirements were:
- to maintain design at resolutions from 1024×768 to 1600×1400
- to make it easy to post large images
By happenstance, it has the following good traits:
- valid XHTML Transitional
- valid CSS 2
- WordPress Widget ready
- WordPress 2.7 ready (also tested under 2.6 and 2.5)
