Dropping Ashes on the Buddha: The Zen Teaching of Master Seung Sahn by Seung Sahn and edited by Stephen Mitchell is a great book for new and experienced Zen thinkers alike. Filled with stories, parables, and letters, the book focuses on the modern and somewhat secular aspects of Zen.
My humble lines above were conceived while alternatively reading and contemplating sunrise as shown in the picture in the proceeding post.

Photo from Bullandö
Last week I was in the Swedish archipelago outside Stockholm. The picture here shows a spot I went watch the sun set and rise. The picture was taken at 23:20 (July 1, 2007 11:20 PM) with my phone-cam.
For the last 4 days and 3 more days, I’m in Portugal. Today, I’m on the border town Miranda do Douro, just a short swim across the Douro river from Spain. We have a rental car and have so far explored the Atlantic coast from Lisbon to Porto. It is a beautiful country, extremely friendly folk, and a great place to get away from it all for a while.
While I’ve been traveling, internet has been either dial-up or unavailable. Now I’m picking up some hijacked WiFi, so I’ll try to post some pictures later.
Anyway, I’m alive and well. And will return to posting someday soon.
